Sacramento, CA – At a news conference in Sacramento today, the United Ways of California released the results of a new, statewide survey on children’s health coverage. Mirroring the results of a previous survey done in May 2006, the new poll found that California voters continue to show overwhelming support for providing all of California’s children with comprehensive health insurance. The November survey also found that California voters think California can afford to cover all kids and believe it is a realistic goal.

Dr. Robert K. Ross, M.D., the President and CEO of The California Endowment, today issued the following statement:
“We are very disappointed to learn that funding for kids' health coverage has been eliminated from the state's budget proposal. Sadly, it is our children who are the victims, particularly the 800,000 kids who do not have health insurance. According to recent polls, the overwhelming majority of Californians say covering kids is the right thing to do. We need to ask our state's elected leaders: 'If not now, when?'"

Los Angeles, CA – Children’s health care providers received welcome news today with the announcement by The California Endowment that it was awarding $7.5 million in grants to local Children’s Health Initiatives (CHI) in eighteen counties across California, including nearly $1 million for Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Santa Cruz. In all, the grants will provide sufficient funding to cover nearly 8,000 children across the state with health care coverage. Read more >

LOS ANGELES - A team of nationally recognized experts with The Lewin Group released
today a study that compares cost estimates and coverage impacts of three different
proposals, each designed to expand health insurance coverage for California's
kids. The proposals, two proffered by California lawmakers and a third by The
New America Foundation, propose to vastly expand, if not completely cover all
of the more than 877,000 children currently without any form of health care

LOS ANGELES (September 22, 2005) - Employer-based health care coverage for dependent children has eroded significantly over the past five years and without immediate action, the trend will likely continue well into the future, according to a report released today by the UC Berkeley Center for Labor Research and Education and Working Partnerships USA. A second report, released by The Economic and Social Research Institute, issues a similar warning, particularly for lower-income households and examines strategies to expand job-based coverage.Read more >
